Just a friendly reminder to everyone that the annual BRISBANE OPEN HOUSE is on again this weekend (8-9 October)! Open House started operating in Brisbane in 2010 providing a unique opportunity to get a ‘behind the scences’ look at some of the city’s most iconic buildings. This is a free event and although some buildings require bookings, there’s still plenty to have a look at. Check out www.brisbaneopenhouse.com.au for further details and to plan your itinerary. To help you out, we’ve compiled a few personal favourites that some of the POWE Peeps will be checking out over the course of the weekend.

  1. 480 Queen Street – Occupying what was an empty site for a number of years, 480 Queen Street opened earlier this year and features an impressive open air foyer that leads to a communal garden podium.
  2. ABC Brisbane Centre – Easily identified by it’s folded steel sunshading blades, this impressive four storey building sits in a prominent location in South Bank confirming it as Brisbane’s ‘cultural precinct’. A great opportunity to check out where live TV & radio broadcasts take place.
  3. Any of the architecture firms! What better opportunity to appreciate great design than touring the studio of some of Brisbane’s architecture practices. You’ll be able see a wide variety of themes and materials that demonstrate the different approaches architects and interior designers take when creating a work environment.

There’s so much more on offer so get your walking shoes on and check out some of these fantastic buildings. Also don’t forget to take your camera for your chance to enter the 2016 Focus on Architecture Competition.

Have fun!!!
