Medium density living that's not middle of the road

Client: SBW Property Pty Ltd No.1
Status: Completed November 2015
Capacity: 14 Two Bedroom Apartments
Project Team: Michael Ellis
Located within walking distance of both the Stafford Road shopping strip and the Stafford City Shopping Centre, this medium density apartment project further underpins POWE Architects’ experience of working with increasing residential density near retail centres.
According to Place Design Group’s Angus Green,
“The development has been designed to ensure an excellent outcome for the subject site, taking advantage of the land’s area classification, the surrounding area and site specific characteristics and appropriately responds to the relevant provisions of the City Plan 2000.”
The building design incorporates a restrained materials pallette into a low impact aesthetic. This reduces the appearance of massing and the perception of building height from the street. The design also respects the adjoining existing residences by not overcrowding the boundary. Residents’ cars are securely kept in an undercroft carpark which is screened from the street view.
POWE Architects have assisted the client on this project with exploring their development options through a supported schematic and concept design process. Once the development potential of the site was understood, POWE Architects then worked with the client and their consultant team to produce the development application.
