POWE Architects aspire to minimise the impact their building designs have on the environment whilst also acknowledging the commercial realities of business and the internal responsibilities of the company.
Sustainable practices have been incorporated into our designs and specifications, as well as specifically assessed as part of green star accreditation for some of our projects. Our Quality Assurance Manual also includes policies directed toward constantly improving the company’s internal practices and minimising their impact on the environment.
The 5,600m2 Stockland Northshore Retail Development was awarded a 4 Star Green Star – Retail Centre Design v1 Certified Rating. The centre was the first in Queensland and the third nationally to achieve this rating for ‘best practice’ in environmentally sustainable design.
POWE Architects worked closely with the contractor Baulderstone Queensland, and several consultants to ensure the sustainability focused approach was evident not just in the project itself, but also in the level of community involvement in terms of education and skill development. Allowing local trades the opportunity to understand their products, supply chains and methods in terms of environmentally sustainable practices.
The centre was also awarded a 4 Star Green Star Retail Centre As Built v1 Certified Rating. The first in Queensland and the second nationally to achieve this rating. (Baulderstone, 2012)
